The Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship (SVMCM Scholarship) is the largest government scholarship of the state of West Bengal, known as Vikash Bhavan Scholarship.

This Swami Vivekananda Scholarship provides financial assistance to the students of schools(Class 11& 12 ), colleges ( Diploma, engineering, nursing, undergraduation, post graduation ) and universities  of all economically backward states for the advancement of their studies.

  • School students of Class XI and XII, as well as all undergraduate students in general and professional courses, will be eligible to receive the benefits of the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship.
  • The annual family income of the applicant must not exceed ₹2.5 lakh.The Swami Vivekananda Scholarship is awarded to students who achieve at least 60% marks, depending on the specific course level requirements.

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Eligibility

The SVMCM Scholarship Scheme has specific eligibility criteria that students must meet to apply. Here’s a summary:

1. Domicile : Applicants must be residents of West Bengal.

2. Education Level :

  •  Class 11 and 12: Must be studying under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, West Bengal Council for Higher Secondary Education, or Madrasa Education.
  • Undergraduate : Enrolled in Science, Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Medical, or Technical/Professional courses at AICTE-approved institutes affiliated with WBSCTVE&SD.
  • Postgraduate : Pursuing courses in Science, Arts, Commerce, or Technical/Management from recognized institutions or any State University in West Bengal.
  • M.Phil and Doctoral : Candidates for NON-NET Junior Research Fellow and NET-Lectureship must be from state-aided institutions.

3. Academic Marks :

  •  Class 11 and 12: At least 60% marks in last qualifying exam
  • Undergraduate : Minimum of 60% marks in the Class 12 board examination
  • Postgraduate :  minimum of 53 % marks in the undergraduate degree. 

4. Income Limit : The total family income should not exceed ₹2,50,000 per annum.

Important Notes for SVMCM Scholarship Scheme:

Eligibility for Female Students:

Female students from West Bengal who have scored 45% marks in aggregate after obtaining their undergraduate degrees from institutions in the state can apply for postgraduate studies in Science, Arts, or Commerce under the Kanyashree (K3) category.

1.Identity Proof :

    • Domicile Certificate : Aadhar card, voter ID, passport, or any government-issued identification.

2.Educational Certificates :

3.Income Certificate :

      • Details Included: It should clearly state the total annual income of the family, along with the applicant’s name.

4.Caste Certificate (if applicable) :

    • Eligibility: Required for students from SC/ST/OBC categories.
    • Issuing Authority: Must be issued by a competent authority, typically a government official.
    • Purpose: To verify eligibility for reserved category benefits.

5.Bank Account Details :

    • Passbook Copy: A photocopy of the first page of the bank passbook showing the account number, IFSC code, and the student’s name.
    • Purpose: Necessary for disbursal of scholarship funds.

6.Passport photo & Signature : Usually, 2-3 recent :

    • Photo: Recant Passport size color photograph .
    • Signature: Student scanned copy signature .

SVMCM Scholarship Scheme 2024-25 – Renewal

After applying for the scholarship, if you are awarded it in your first year, you will be required to renew it each year thereafter. If you receive the scholarship at any point after your initial application, you will have the opportunity to renew it from your second year through to the final year of your course, regardless of which year you applied.

SVMCM Scholarship Scheme Renewal  eligibility criteria :-

To renew the scholarship, the application must be submitted online to the relevant scholarship authority within one month of promotion to the next higher class, contingent on passing all exams in the first attempt. Renewal is based on satisfactory academic performance:

•⁠ ⁠Academic Requirements Marks :

  • Undergraduate Level : Minimum 60% combined marks across semesters.
  • Postgraduate Level : Minimum 50% combined marks across semester

Undergraduate Degree/Postgraduate Degree Students  :

  • 1st Renewal : Submission of Semester 1 and Semester 2 marksheets.
  • 2nd Renewal : Submission of Semester 3 and Semester 4 marksheets.
  • 3rd Renewal : Submission of Semester 5 and Semester 6 marksheets.

MBBS Students :

  • 1st Renewal: Submission of 1st MBBS marksheet
  • 2nd Renewal: Submission of 2nd Professional MBBS marksheet in the following year.
  • 3rd and Final Renewal : Submission of 3rd Professional Part 1 MBBS marksheet in the following year

Technical Students :

  • 1st Renewal: Submit Semester 1 and Semester 2 marksheets.
  • 2nd Renewal : Submit Semester 3 and Semester 4 marksheets.
  • Further Renewals: Continue submitting subsequent semester marksheets in order, up to the completion of the program.

Important Notes for SVMCM Scholarship Renewal :

After receiving the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship any student in school or college cannot renew the scholarship if there is a gap of one year or semester supply.Even if you have the required number of renewal marks for two semesters of the year, you cannot apply if there is supply in any subject.

FAQ for svmcm scholarship

Can I get two scholarships at a time?

No, it is possible to get a scholarship from any government scholarship. It is not possible to get this scholarship by applying for two scholarships at the same time – in this case both scholarships are likely to be rejectedBut it is possible to apply for multiple private scholarships along with one government scholarship.

60% marks required to get Swami Vivekananda Also, Swami Vivekananda scholarship is awarded to undergraduate level students of colleges and universities (PG student) who secure 53% marks.

If form filling is wrong, documentation is not uploaded correctly, even if income certificate is not given correctly – Swami Vivekananda Scholarship or other scholarships are rejected.

A student can get Rs.1000 to Rs.8000 per month from Swami Vivekananda Scholarship. That is, a student can get a minimum of 12,000 and a maximum of 96,000 rupees per year.

For renewal of Swami Vivekananda Scholarship 60% marks are required in all the previous year exams.

Yes, government and private scholarships can be applied for together.Along with government scholarships you can get multiple private scholarships without any difficulty.(Though it depends on private scholarship)

Yes you can apply for state and national scholarships simultaneously. It is possible to apply but you will get the scholarship amount from either.

Candidates from outside West Bengal will not be eligible to apply for this scholarship.
